Australian Organature Bedding Organic Cotton Quilt Covers
Good and Bad Cotton Don't be misled by thinking that because a product is labelled cotton then it is totally natural. There are more chemicals used on cotton than any other crop. Chemicals are used to grow, harvest and process cotton, they are used to make the fabric easy care, wrinkle free, down proof etc.
Organic cotton processing uses no such harsh chemicals during cultivation or manufacturing into yarn, fabrics, garments, bed linen etc. Defoliants are not used to reduce plant matter before , during or after picking of the cotton and are not used to clean the cotton. All processing means are biodegradable and free of harmful heavy metals, AZO dyes and other harmful substances. The fabric is treated with means to preserve the natural characteristics of the cotton and is kind to the environment..
The Natural Characteristics of Organic Cotton After the cotton boll has been picked it is ginned; a process for removing seeds. This process also removes some of the plant matter. Further processing removes more of the plant particles however it is impossible to remove them all. The result is that there might be the occasional dark spots in light coloured fabrics.
When purchasing organic cotton products there must be an understanding that the customer is fully aware of this natural characteristic and accept that these are not flaws.
