About Dinkum Birds of Australia

Charles Smith of Dinkum BirdsDinkum Birds

All birds are handcrafted by Charles Smith of Dinkum Birds Of Australia. Charles trained as an industrial designer specialising in furniture design. He worked and studied in Germany and Scandinavia in the 60's before starting his own furniture factory, which he has now sold.

Charles has now devoted himself to his lifelong passion for birds. His mission in life is to help make Australians aware of their most fantastic and precious heritage - more than 800 species of birds. His handcrafted birds are now to be found in collections as far afield as Tokyo, London, New York, Stockholm, and Los Angeles just to mention a few.

Charles has standing orders for any new bird he crafts with several collectors from all over the world. Ultimately he would like to make at least one of each of Australia's 800 plus bird species.
