Goolaman is a word used by the Aboriginal Bardi "Saltwater" people meaning frilled lizard. They are found throughout the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The name frilled lizard comes from the frill around its neck that is lifted to intimindate predators and to warn off other males while mating. Although the frilled lizard lives in rough barked trees they often descend to the ground to search for insects and small mammals.
